Welcome
This is the small corner of the internet I keep for myself. No analytics, no ads, no comment threads fighting for attention — just the things I want to remember and share: longer notes I've written and photographs I've taken.
The writing here tends toward the slow and technical. I'm most interested in how things actually work under the hood — the unglamorous plumbing of computers, the quiet mechanics of a hobby carried far enough to become interesting, and the occasional detour into whatever has captured my attention that week. If that sounds like your kind of thing, the blog archive is the place to start.
What's here
- Blog — essays and notes, newest first. Some are finished; some are living documents I revise as I learn more.
- Gallery — photographs, mostly of places and the odd detail that caught my eye. Friends and family can add their own with the shared passcode.
Why self-host
I run this on a small machine in my own home, exposed to the public internet through a tunnel rather than rented from a hyperscaler. The trade-offs are familiar — I'm responsible for keeping it alive, and a power outage takes the site with it — but the payoff is that the words and the pictures are, in a real sense, mine: no platform can deprecate them, re-rank them, or decide I've violated a terms-of-service I never read. The first post, Hello, world, walks through how it's put together, for anyone curious about the plumbing.
If you're here because you know me: hello. If you're here by accident: stay a moment anyway.
